BONNIE DOON COMMUNITY CENTRE
In 1999 Bonnie Doon Primary School closed, requiring children to be bused into Mansfield for all levels of their education. It also meant that locals had to travel 50km round trip to Mansfield for virtually all retail, social, education, medical and employment - costing in financial and social terms.
The Bonnie Doon Community Group campaigned tirelessly for three years to save the school building and establish it as a Community Centre, which opened in June 2004 and now provides many opportunities for local employment, education, health services, childcare and social networks.
The Bonnie Doon Community Centre aims to benefit all sectors of the community, by maintaining as accessible facility (adequate wheelchair access, hand rails, lighting, air conditioning etc) and seeking input from the community so that we offer a range of services and activities, at a suitable time and cost.
OP SHOP
To financially support the programs of the Community Centre, the Op Shop is open weekdays from 1.00 - 4.30pm, and on market days. Stocking household goods, cutlery and crockery, odds and ends, children's, ladies and men's clothing the Op Shop is staffed by volunteers and is a vibrant hive of activity!
